Overview of plastic product output in May
In May 2024, China's plastic products industry summarized statistics on enterprises' output of 6.517 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 0.5%. During January to May, the cumulative output was 30.028 million tons and a cumulative increase of 1.0%.

Eastern region leads the country in output

Among the 31 provinces and cities across the country included in the statistics, more than half of them achieved year-on-year growth in plastic product output in May. Among them, Anhui, Fujian, Chongqing, Guizhou, and Gansu have a year-on-year increase of more than 10%; Hainan and Qinghai have a year-on-year increase of more than 40%. The top five provinces and cities in the China in terms of plastic product output in May were Zhejiang, Guangdong, Jiangsu, Hubei, and Fujian. According to regional statistics, in May 2024, the output of plastic products in the eastern region was 4.168 million tons, accounting for 64%; the output of plastic products in the central region was 1.361 million tons, accounting for 20.9%; the output of plastic products in the western region was 869,000 tons, accounting for 20.9% 13.3%; the output of plastic products in Northeast China was 118,000 tons, accounting for 1.8%.

Overview of import and export of plastic products in May
According to data from the General Administration of Customs, in May 2024, the export volume of plastic products was US$9.3 billion, a year-on-year increase of 10.5%; the import volume was US$1.52 billion, a year-on-year increase of 2.2%. From January to May, the total export volume of plastic products was US$43.87 billion, a year-on-year increase of 8.5%; the total import volume was US$7.2 billion, a year-on-year increase of 5.1%.

In short, plastic products have become an indispensable part of today's industry and daily life. In recent years, the output of plastic products has shown a continuous growth trend. The growth of plastic product output is not only a reflection of economic development and technological progress, but also brings severe challenges.
